Poco più di cento anni fa, dal 1918 al 1920, ci fu un'altra pandemia mondiale: l'influenza spagnola - nel corso di tre ondate - fece tra i 50 e i 100 milioni di morti a dipendenza delle stime: anche allora, il Ticino fu tra i cantoni più colpiti e i provvedimenti governativi emanati per la pandemia di COVID-19, malattia altamente contagiosa causata dal nuovo coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2), assomigliano molto a quelli dell'epoca.
